Tuesday 20-05 - The Fountain

In the afternoon we were invited by Dani to observe what she first called a friends art project. I later found out that this project wasnt a project, so much as a few friends filling Russel Square park fountain with clothes dye and detergent. We finished dinner late and thought we were going to miss them. Fortunately when we arrived the group was still gathered, drinking wine and trying to work out how it was to be done.

Folks

The first dye was blue, but didnt break. Dani flatmate had to wade into the fountain to break it into the centre. He came out covered in blue. It wasnt too spectacular.

The next as the red dye, which again had to be broken into the fountain manually. The colours were vibrant this time and seemed to stay around for a while as a bubblegum pink.

More red

The detergent took some time to work and eventually foamed out the sides. The end result was a foaming pink fountain. People walking past stopped and smiled and took photos. It made me feel like we had brought a little beautiful and joy to the world.
