We jumped a quick train to Madrid. The last we were in the city, we were trying not to fall asleep through out the night. We took the same metro. This time though the renovations on our line were finished and we didn´t have to take a bus for half of it lie last time. We realised that our hostel was right near the renovations. Thank god they were finished.
At the hostel we waited around. Our stay in Madrid was to be shared with my friend from medicine, Steve. He had to take a later train than he had wanted and only got in in the evening. We waited in the bar/lounge downstairs. I quite liked the hostel this hostel,it had a good feel.
Meeting up with Steve was great. I really missed all the people back home, so seeing a familiar face was amazing. We all went out to find a Tapas bar. We found a place in the Lonely Planet book. It was full of young students chatting away in Spanish. I think that if we didn´t talk, we could have almost passed for locals there. Until we talked that was. We got the small local glasses of beer and tried to get us some food. It was tricky, we couldn´t tell how it worked there. Eventually I went up to the bar and got some tuna things with the help of the cute barman.
We hung around for a bit then returned to the hostel. Steve was tired and went to bed, but Josh and I were hyped to go out. We went to an area with lots of bars and clubs. We saw everyone standing in the street drinking. It was almost 1am. We didn´t know how late people went into clubs. The streets were packed.
We popped into a club that was actually just a bar. No dance floor, just us and some other people stand drinking and moving around a bit. They had there own energy drink brand.
We ended up back outside with everyone else. At about 2 we swallowed our pride and asked a group of people where they go out. They said no one clears the streets until at least 2. Wow I thought, Madrilenos are almost nocturnal. They invited us to follow them and thats what we did. We spent the night dancing in a fun club.
They even played a Spanish song I knew! Everyone else got as excited about it I did. Josh and I sang loudly with the rest of the club in our broken Spanish.
